OUR HOUSE

Toastmasters International is a world-wide organization with over 12,500 clubs and more than 250,000 members in approximately 106 countries. We have a clearly defined structure, naturally, to cater to the international presence of this magnitude.

MEMBER

Toastmasters Organization is like an inverted pyramid is a Pyramid with MEMBER at the top. He is the most important person. He is the building block with which the whole organization is built. District 79, has over 8,000 members in more than 276 Clubs.

CLUB

Members are woven into clubs, one or more. Clubs, at once link the members to the superstructure. Clubs enable the members to learn, improve and benefit. Normally Clubs have 20 to 30 members. Each club has an Executive Committee which runs the club. The club Executive Committee ensures that the learning environment at the club is of the highest quality. The Club Executive Committee Officers consists of  President, Immediate Past President, Vice President Education, Vice President Membership, Vice President Public Relations, Treasurer, Secretary, and Sergeant At Arms. Under the Committee’s direction and leadership, members work together to achieve specific goals within the structure of Toastmasters.

AREA

Clubs feed into Areas. An Area typically consists of 4 or 5 clubs. An Area Governor is assigned, to help the clubs under his Area, to provide quality programs for members. The Area Governor is the primary link for the club Executives to the rest of the pyramid downwards. District 79 has 62 Areas. Usually Areas are denoted by numbers.

DIVISION

Divisions are constituted by 4 to 6 Areas. A Division Governor is elected or assigned to coordinate Area Governors activities. The aim is to provide educational opportunities to all Clubs in the Division. He / She is a member of District Executive Committee & District Council. There are 14 divisions in District 79. Divisions are identified by alphabets.

DISTRICT

Several Divisions grouped together, become Districts. A District Governor, Lieutenant Governor of Education & Training, and Lieutenant Governor Marketing are elected by the Clubs. Their main job is to supervise the execution of Toastmasters program in the divisions that comprise the district.
There are around eighty Six Districts around the world.

REGION

Districts coalesce into Regions, the largest unit in the TMI machinery. Two people from a Region are elected to the Board of Toastmasters International and represent the people of their region as International Directors. International Directors are elected to two-year terms. Currently there are 9 Regions around the world. From July 1, 2010, Toastmasters districts and clubs worldwide will be aligned into 14 regions. Consequently, the international directors would be elected from the regions, one per region rather than two as at present, and this would better reflect the number of members and clubs outside North America. There would continue to be some clubs that are not within a district.

Our District 79 belongs to DNAR (District Not Assigned to a Region) up to Toastmasters year June 2010 and will be assigned to Region 11 along with Districts 59, 71, 74, 79 (X2) form Europe, Africa & Middle East from July 2010.

BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Above the district, the board of directors manages the overall activities of the organization. Toastmasters International has a board of 24 members. The Board of Directors of Toastmasters International are voluntary positions elected for 2 year terms. The board of directors is composed of several officers, as well as international directors elected from various regions (collections of geographically close districts). The board is assisted in day to day activities by the world headquarters staff, led by the executive director. In addition to the eighteen international directors (two from each region and two for districts outside of regions), the board of directors has the following officers: International President, Senior Vice-President, Second Vice-President, Third Vice-President, Immediate Past International President, International Directors, Secretary-Treasurer, Executive director.

From July 1, 2010, the position of Senior Vice-President will be changed to President-Elect. The person elected to this position would serve a two year term – the first as President-Elect, the second as President. Therefore, there would no longer be a direct vote for the position of President. The board will have following officers: International President, President Elect, Senior Vice-President, Second Vice-President, Immediate Past International President, International Directors, Secretary-Treasurer, Executive director.

The Executive Director is an employee of TMI, who is hired by the Board. The Executive Director and his/her staff at the International Headquarters are the only paid staff. They work together to provide an educational program which is then administered by other levels of the Toastmasters International organization.

Only International Head Quarters and Districts have budgets. Their budgets come from membership dues, sales from the International catalog, convention fees, and donations.

WORLD HEAD QUARTERS

World Headquarters, located in Mission Viejo, California, has approximately 54 paid staff headed by the Executive Director. They oversee the daily operation of the organization, providing materials and assistance to Clubs and Districts.

All levels within Toastmasters have officers who are leader servants of their respective entity. All have their separate duties. All are geared towards helping the members of Toastmasters International reach their goals.
