DTAC

DISTRICT TOASTMASTERS ANNUAL CONFERENCE

Each year Toastmasters from all over District 79, which covers the GCC and Jordan, hold a District Toastmasters Annual Conference otherwise known as DTAC. These Toastmasters, who come from all walks of life, career paths and educational interests, converge at DTAC to:

  • Participate in District level International Speech, Humorous Speech and Table Topics Contests, fully aware that the 1st place winners will represent District 79 in this summer’s Toastmasters International Contests
  • Attend Keynote Speeches and Educational Workshops by World Champion Speakers
  • Network with Toastmasters from all over the region
  • Conduct important District Excom and Council Meetings and
  • Above all, have a memorable educational experience together.

Brief History

Time Line

1989 Joint Meeing of three Clubs - Manama Toastmasters Club, 2916, Indian Club Speakers Forum, 1836 (both from Bahrain) and Dhahran Toastmasters 1059 (from Dhahran, Saudi Arabia.) was conducted in Bahrain. Only one contest conducted - Humorous speech contest
1990 Based on the great success of the first joint meeting, the joint meeting was repeated again.
1991 Oasis Toastmasters (8258U) chartered in 1991 in Al Khobar, Saudi Arabia joined the group in 1991.
1992 Riyadh Toastmasters Club, the only club in Riyadh since 1987 joined the group in this year and became the fifth member.  
1993 Formation of GTEC - Gulf Toastmasters Excecutive Committee - First Chairperson - Horace Caviness, DTM Three Contests Conducted - International Speech Contest, Table Topics Speech Contest, Evaluation Speech Contest. - Conference known as Gulf Toastmasters Conference.
1994 Four Contests -  International Speech Contest, Humorous Speech Contest, Evaluation Contest and Table Topics Contest conducted during the Annual conference GETC Chair - Enolia Thomas, CTM

1998 First time Gulf Toastmasters Conference was conducted outside of Bahrain at Oasis Hotel in Doha, Qatar. TM Manoj Megchiani was the Conference Chair. From this year the Annual meeting of the clubs came to be known as Gulf Toastmasters Annual Convention instead of Gulf Toastmasters Conference (GTAC). GTC Gov - Mathews Kurien, DTM
1999 GTAC was conducted at Renaissance Hotel, Dubai, United Arab Emirates and TM Mohammad Murad as Chairperson. Gulf Toastmasters Council received official status as Territorial Council from Toastmasters International. GTC Gov - Mathews Kurien, DTM
2000 Riyadh Club hosted the event  in Bahrain with Manama TM Club as Co-host . TM David Lyod was Convention Chair.  and TM Janaki Prasad Pattanaik as Chief Coordinator and TM Vijay Baloor as Coordinator. First Gulf Territorial Council Governor - Manoj Megchiani.
2001 Manama Toastmasters hosted GTAC 2001 at Bahrain Conference Centre, Holiday Inn Hotel, Bahrain with Santhosh Pai, CTM as Chair. It was conducted as three day event (9-11 May) with first day set aside for Theme: Excellence in Eloquence". GTC Governor - Manoj Megchiani.
2002 Under the chairmanship of Sh. Abdul Hameed AI Zadajaly, GTAC 2002 was conducted in Oman. GTAC 2002 was hosted by the Toastmasters clubs in Oman at the Al Bustan Palace Hotel on the 11th and 12th April, 2002. Theme: “Voyage of Voices”. GTC Governor - Janaki Prasad Pattanaik, DTM
2003 From 2003 Gulf Toastmasters Annual Convention was known as Gulf Toastmasters Annual Conference. Toastmasters Clubs in Dubai. The event was hosted by TMs of United Arab Emirates with TM Balu Padmanabhan as Chair. It was conducted on May 15-16 at Crowne Plaza.  From this year Contests were conducted only in three categories - International Speech Contest, Humorous Speech Contest & Table Topics Speech Contest. 2004 Gulf Territorial Council attained the status of Provisional District 79. GTAC was conducted for the last time at Regency Hotel in Kuwait on 12-13 May with Guy Jobidan, ATM as Conference Chair. "Theme: Towering Towards Excellence". District 79P Governor - Mohammad Murad, DTM

From just 30 members getting together in 1989, we have grown to around 700 Toastmasters attending  our District 79 Toastmasters Annual Conference.
