Membership Building Contests

Membership Building

MEMBERSHIP BUILDING CONTESTS

Members are the life of our Toastmasters clubs, and 20 is the magic number: to charter a new club, to be distinguished, to maintain the energy and people needed to fill the club positions at the meeting.

Virtually all Toastmasters clubs need a constant influx of new members to stay healthy.

People move, get that promotion because of their improved self-confidence and speaking skills, take a break for family, health issues - among many reasons. The bottom line is most members join Toastmasters with specific objectives in mind and leave when they have achieved them. More than 95% of the people who leave Toastmasters leave happy and say they might join again in the future.

By adding new members, your club and its members will benefit by:

  • Achieving more meeting participation.
  • Enhanced learning.
  • Gaining opportunities to hone new skills.
  • Conducting a membership building contest is an easy way to increase your club’s membership.
  • Club Contests

There are many things your club can do to attract new members and/ or keep the ones they already have. If your club is struggling with membership, then you and your fellow members need to do three simple things:

  • Get Guests to attend your meeting
  • Convert Guests to Members
  • Retain Members
  • Participate in TI membership building contests during the year. Three of these contests are for club participation:
    • Annual Membership Program recognizes individuals who sponsor 5, 10, 15 or more new members during the year
    • Smedley Award (August 1 – September 30) - Clubs adding 5 new members during Aug-Sept
    • Talk up Toastmasters (February 1 – March 31) - Clubs adding 5 new members during Feb-March
    • Beat the Clock (May 1 – June 30)  - Clubs adding 5, new, dual, or reinstated members during May-June

It’s simple – add five new, dual or reinstated members to your roster within the contest dates above to be honored with this award.
